A special treat awaits as the Diamond Trio presents a concert including a variety of musical styles from classical to jazz. The program will include “Cafe Music for Violin, Cello and Piano (1986)” by Paul Schoenfield (b. 1947), with its ragtime, jazz, folk and contemporary rhythms creating a playful and unexpectedly virtuosic ride: “The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires (1970) by Astor Piazzola (1921-1992), a not so subtle nod to Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”; and a piano trio, “Forgive, as...” with captivating melodic lines and complex rhythms layering by Mississippi composer Benjamin Williams (b. 1982).

Jackson-born violinist Shellie Brown Kemp, who received her Bachelor of Music degree from Belhaven University and her Master of Music degree from The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, is a young artist recognized for her unique sound and emotive performances. Veronica Parrales is the Principal Cello for the Mississippi Symphony. Originally from New York City, she received training at the Manhattan School of Music and Purchase Conservatory, obtained a Master’s degree from Hunter College and completed courses for a Doctorate of Musical Arts at Rutgers University. Dr. Stephen W. Sachs, pianist , and founding member of the Diamond Trio, holds degrees from the Catholic University of America, Ohio University and Lebanon Valley College. He is Professor Emeritus in Music at Belhaven and Director of Music Ministries at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
